December 2013

Happy Holidays!
Don't know about you but I can't believe it's already December and that the holidays are here...yikes! As if spending all Thanksgiving day with my dysfunctional family wasn't enough, now Christmas is coming and I'm forced to buy them gifts too.  If you're in the same dilemma, I may have a solution, the gift of art!  Check out what I've got going this season!

Hark!
Yeah that's my "Underpants Dance" on the cover of this year's Hark!invitation. It's that awesome time of year when 60+ artists offer their signature works of art at especially affordable prices for holiday gift giving! Participating artists include resident KALEID artists as well as an invited group of talented regional artists.

Hundreds of works of art will be our main feature exhibit for this holiday season, all ready to go home with you at time of purchase! I have about 7 or 8 brand spankin'new pieces in this super fun show, as well as a plethora of prints, clay pins and other goodies at the gallery.

A BIG Thank You!
I just want to take this opportunity to give a big mushy thanks to all of you out there who support what I do. I had a fantastic year and sold tons of my weird little paintings. Many thanks to all the galleries and art shops who think my stuff is worth hanging on your walls. Thanks too, to the many, many collectors old and new who follow my work and think enough of it to have it grace your home. It's wonderful, it's a gift and I'm so fortunate to have you out there supporting and encouraging me.

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and may 2014 be a year full of peace & love!

September...

It's been awhile... but I wanted to send a quick note on what I'm up to and a fantastic upcoming event!

Ace Charter School Mosaic Mural

For the past few months I've been buried, crazy working on a series of slab clay and mosaic murals for Ace Middle School in San Jose. I'm not done yet but here's a little sneak preview of what I'm up to, I'll post more pictures when I'm finished! I've been lucky to have the help of my incredible friends and artists Christine Benjamin and Darlene Davidge!

Come see me at
The Luna Park Chalk Art Festival!

One of my favorite events of the year is the Luna Park Chalk Art Festival. I'm a featured artist this year and will be out there drawing, as well as hanging out selling my paintings, prints and other stuff. There's live bands, food trucks, fun things for the kids to do, and if you're feeling creative sign up now to draw yourself! This super cool event is close to my heart because it raises funds for art programs at local schools. Which reminds me, you can also donate to support the arts and this amazing festival, just click the link below!

BIG SHOW! Friday May 3rd KALEID Gallery, Downtown SJ!

Hey there-

Just wanted to let you all know (if you don't already) I have a BIG show coming up on First Friday May 3rd.  I'll have tons of new original pieces including some of my clay  sculptures, hopefully some dolls,  and even a couple of big paintings, which I rarely do, (cross your fingers that I get them done...they take soooo long!).   This show is particularly special to me because I'll be showing with one of my best friends and favorite artists Christine Benjamin. Christine and I met many years ago as young parents, trying to raise kids, make art and hold down jobs...not an easy feat!  Over the years we've worked together, inspired one another and been there for one another, maybe being the only ones who truly understood each other's need to create.  Anyways she's been a great friend, supporter of my work and is an all around awesome person. Her work is clever, fun and downright amazing,  to check it out go to :    http://cbillustration.squarespace.com/

For our show "The Weird and the Wonderful" we've had a blast collaborating on a few  pieces, exploring some crazy ideas, and we will be working on a  cool mural in the gallery space together as well.  This is not to be missed!

Here's a bit about the show:

"Worlds collide when Christine Benjamin's funky characters meet Murphy Adams' quirky human narratives. Robots & monsters, housewives & dreamers, the Weird and the Wonderful come together to tell their own tales. Please come and meet Murphy and Christine at KALEID Gallery on Friday, May 3rd 2013 - 6-10PM."

At Art Object Gallery
5592 North 5th Street (Japantown)
San Jose CA 95112

Wanted to let you know about the third Artist's Studio Inventory Sale event happening on Saturday, March 16th. I have been and will be installing the works of many of the South Bay Areas most known and respected painters, sculptors, photographers, and printmakers, as well as lesser known but very collectable emerging artists.  There will be an amazing variety of excellent work available for purchase at deeply discounted prices as the artists glean from their individual studios older works in order to clear much needed space and generate some much needed cash flow so they can continue on in the pursuit of their vision. So this really is a great opportunity to see the works of many of the top rated artists in one place and time. the sale begins at 6:00pm Saturday March 16th till at least 10:00pm. It would be great to see you there. Bring friends.
Peace. Be cool and stay warm.

Happy Valentine's Day!

February is my month. It's still winter but you get a little peek into Spring, trees are budding, early flowers open their sleepy little heads, the birds start looking for love and a place to build their cozy nests. It's lush and green and feels fresh and in a way new.

I was born in February, and have a big, big birthday this month, a milestone I suppose. I was also married in February, and still have mad love for my manfriend after 22 years. True, it hasn't all been kittens and rainbows, but pretty much. I love that man so much sometimes I think my heart will explode. Lastly, February is also Valentine's Day, a Hallmark holiday for sure, but I can't help myself, I love...love. I'm giddy for the sticky sweetness that the day has to offer, flowers, candy, frantic dinner reservations, a lame gift like a useless stuffed animal purchased on the street corner. It's a day to smile about and not get caught up in expectation. Its all good, just try and catch some of that love around you.

In any case in a day filled with procrastination I put together this little video with loads of my love-ish paintings to a horrible song by Lionel Richie sung quite beautifully by probably my favorite artist Eef Barzulay of Clem Snide. Hope you like it.

Love, Murphy
